Skull and Crossbones Nebula
NGC 2467 · Emission nebula in Puppis · ~13,000 ly
A vast star-forming region whose glowing gas and dark pillars of dust suggest the hollow sockets of a ghostly skull. Hot young stars at its center set the hydrogen ablaze and are slowly eroding the surrounding clouds, triggering fresh generations of stars along the way.
