Carina Nebula

NGC 3372 · Emission nebula in Carina · ~8,500 ly

One of the largest and brightest nebulae in the sky, a vast star-forming complex in the southern constellation Carina, several times the apparent width of the full Moon. Dark dust lanes cut across glowing gas that is lit and carved by some of the most massive and luminous stars known, including the unstable giant Eta Carinae. The frame also takes in the neighboring nebulae NGC 3324 and IC 2599.
