Dark Wolf Nebula

SL-17 · Dark nebula in Scorpius · ~6,230 ly

A brooding tendril of cold interstellar dust whose drawn-out form resembles a baying wolf — earning it the nickname Fenrir. Silhouetted against the faint red glow of the surrounding emission nebula RCW 113, it is a rarely imaged region where dense dust blots out the light of the stars behind it.
