North America Nebula
NGC 7000 · Emission nebula in Cygnus · ~2,600 ly
A huge cloud of glowing hydrogen whose ragged outline mirrors the continent of North America, complete with a dark “Gulf of Mexico” of obscuring dust. Spanning several times the width of the full Moon, it glows under the light of hot stars buried within the surrounding star fields of Cygnus.
