Pavo Galaxy

NGC 6744 · Spiral galaxy in Pavo · ~30 million ly

A giant spiral galaxy often described as a near-twin of our own Milky Way, its loosely wound arms sprawling across far more sky than most spirals. An elongated core and a small, distorted companion galaxy hint at the slow gravitational dance shaping its feather-like, flocculent arms.
