Triangulum Galaxy
M33 / NGC 598 · Spiral galaxy in Triangulum · ~2.7 million ly
The third-largest member of our Local Group, a delicate face-on spiral roughly 2.7 million light-years away. Its loosely wound arms are strewn with pink stellar nurseries — among them NGC 604, one of the largest star-forming regions known in any galaxy, glowing here in Hα. Fainter and more diffuse than nearby Andromeda, M33 may be a distant gravitational companion of that giant.
